Lily Creative Steiff Teddy Bear

The brief

For a Steiff anniversary we made a giant teddy bear for their display in Selfridges. Designed to look as if it's within the column of the building, with its head, upper body and arms coming out of one end of the wall and its legs and bottom coming out the other side. The yellow bear had its paws at two different levels so that children of all ages could reach to high five him.

THANK YOU so much! We really appreciate the attention to detail, it was great to see how excited everyone was in the morning seeing the bear live instore and I think it will generate a lot of buzz for Steiff!

The Process

We started with a polystyrene sculpture of the bear which we then coated in fibreglass. The bear's surface was sanded smooth and a layer of wadding and soft yellow fabric was then applied. The eyes, nose and ear tag were attached after the fabric was stitched into place and the front and back of the bear were put onto the column to give the effect that he was within it. The bear's paws were positioned high and low so that children of any age could reach one of the paws to give him a high-five.

The Result

The bear has received a lot of love from visitors to Selfridges, with children jumping up to high five his paws. The bear with its bright yellow cuddly fabric stands out in the toy section and the clients were very happy and very proud of their giant bear.
