Marston's Woodie's Trees

  • Polystyrene tree sculpture.
  • Painting the tree.
  • Finished tree in Woodies Den in the Marston's pub

The brief

The trees were part of a children's play area, Marston's wanted the trees to have a hollow at the bottom that children could climb inside and openable doors as well as lights in the foliage. The trees were over 2 metres tall and fit nicely into the corner of the den.

The team at Spur were fantastic whilst supporting us on the design, creation and installation of the tree centrepiece in our new 'Woodie's' pub format. The professionalism, advice and updates throughout the project were fantastic and the final product is better than we could have imagined. Thanks team Spur!

  6. Trees finished and drying.

The Process

We sculpted the master tree from polystyrene, we applied a texture to capture it in the mould. We cast 5 trees, each tree needed to come apart in 3 pieces in order to fit through the doors of the pubs they were being installed in. The trees were finished, had branches attached and then spray painted and lacquered. The woodland creature doors were painted, joined and holes were drilled into the canopy for the lights. Our team went on site to install the trees, the electricians fitted the lights into the foliage section and a few days later the pubs had their grand opening.

The Result

The trees look magical in 'Woodies Den' kids are enjoying climbing inside them, opening the doors and the lights give off a nice calm feel to the area.
