At Spur Creative, we’ve built props of all shapes and sizes throughout the years. But there’s a special kind of joy in recreating the ordinary. Turning a toothbrush or a pudding pot into the star of the show carries a kind of quiet irony we really love. These are things we usually overlook, but when they’re scaled up, they become strangely captivating.
This unexpected magic is exactly what makes them so memorable. It’s the kind of work that reminds us why we started Spur in the first place. To have fun with creativity and bring a bit of magic to everyday things. In this blog, we’re sharing a few of our favourite projects where we took ordinary items and turned them into the star of the show.
Here are a few of our favourite everyday item props we've created for famous international brands throughout the years:
1. Clear Cast Ice Blocks for Braun
One of our regular clients approached us with a frosty challenge: to produce around 1000 clear cast ice blocks for Braun’s worldwide promotion of their CoolTec shaver. The concept was simple but bold: display each product frozen in a crystal-clear ice block as part of a global point-of-sale campaign.
We were provided with 3D artwork and used CNC-cut masters to begin the process, followed by detailed hand-sculpting to achieve realistic crack and texture details. The biggest technical challenge? Achieving a flawless ice effect with just the right number of bubbles suspended in the resin to mimic frozen water, without imperfections. We invested in high-grade clear resin and used a degassing process to control the outcome precisely. Each mould was pre-heated and poured under tightly controlled conditions in a purpose-built polythene casting room. In the end, all 1000 blocks were delivered in bulk to a distribution centre for dispatch across the globe.
2. Chia Pots for The Chia Co
We were commissioned by The Chia Co to create giant versions of their chia dessert pots and a packet of their seeds to support a UK promotional campaign. The brief called for clear pots complete with realistic pudding filling and branded vinyl wrapping: all on a much larger scale.
We began by shaping the pot in polystyrene on a turntable, allowing us to create a perfectly symmetrical form, much like working with a lathe. From this sculpture, we made a mould and cast a fibreglass master, which had to withstand significant pressure in our industrial vacuum former. This process created the clear plastic forms needed for the final props. We then repeated this process for the lids (each one also vacuum formed in clear plastic).
To stay true to the product's details, we included a spoon on the underside of each lid. We sculpted a giant version in clay and cast three of them to go along with the three giant pots.
Rather than scaling up individual chia seeds (which would have been cost-prohibitive and visually unrealistic), we took a high-resolution photo of the actual product and printed it onto conformable vinyl. This was then applied to the inside of the pots to create the illusion of pudding filling.
3. Oral-B Toothbrushes
We were asked by Display Plan to produce six giant metallic pink electric toothbrushes for Oral-B to feature in oral health displays in Boots stores across the UK. The props needed to be highly detailed, eye-catching and durable enough to withstand public environments.
Starting with a supplied toothbrush sample, we created a mould to replicate six toothbrush bodies and matching stands. Each one was carefully cast, sanded and prepped for a high-quality finish.
We masked and sprayed the props with a metallic pink lacquer, then added the buttons, screens, and custom-moulded bristles to complete the look. Even the smallest details were replicated to stay true to the real product.
4. Just Eat Foosball Table
To celebrate the Women's World Cup in 2023, we were asked by creative agency Proud Robinson to design and build a bespoke foosball table for Just Eat. The table was to feature custom-sculpted female footballer figures and be part of the 'Breakfast for Champions' event at The Queen’s Head pub in London.
We sculpted two full teams of female players, which were cast in fast-cure resin and meticulously hand-painted in team colours. Each player was then fitted onto the rods of a custom-built foosball table, which we painted in Just Eat’s iconic orange.
We finished it off with vinyl branding and event lettering, creating a high-impact, playful centrepiece.
5. Adidas Football table
Foosball wasn’t the only ball game on our minds. We also stepped onto the pitch with a bit of "real-life" football. We were asked by Lily Creative to create a centrepiece for London's flagship Adidas store on Oxford Street. The aim was to combine a sculptural football with a sleek retail desk to achieve a proper 'wow' effect.
We started by sculpting a large polystyrene football, which was then used to create a plaster mould.
From this, we cast a fibreglass ball with a precise cut-out to allow for a matching desk unit to be slotted seamlessly into its side. The desk was CNC cut and built with practical sliding doors and internal shelving, then finished in a striking glossy red to complement the Adidas brand. A clear Perspex top was placed into a recess on the desk for promotional graphics. The fibreglass football was painted in a glossy white finish and wrapped with bold vinyl graphics.
Once fully assembled and installed in-store, the desk and ball display reflected the lighting beautifully (as you can see in the picture above).
